about

We are Unhappy (Bonnie Prince Billy)

“I wanted to cover this after seeing him perform the song at the 6th and I street synagogue. At the time my family in Tennessee had been going through what seemed like every imaginable hard time there is in this world. Addiction and depression and anxiety and disease and violence and custody of children issues and poverty and unhappiness. I'd physically escaped the weight of that unhappiness by moving to D.C. but I was deeply troubled by it all on the inside. I was trying to celebrate my 37th birthday so I'd had some whiskey and marijuana before the show. The zipper had broken on my jeans so I sat there by myself in the sanctuary feeling embarrassed. Will Oldham performed the song alone with a guitar that night. Several of the lyrics in that song felt just like being stabbed to death with an icicle in the middle of summer. The way his odd Kentucky shaped voice threw out words like "cruelty" and "demonized" they echoed in my head for months following. So I got the idea that I could sing it even though I rarely sing lead vocals. I hope you'll enjoy the song in spite of the stony seriousness of the words.” - Joshua

Foglings Maryland

What are foglings? No one knows for sure. They've been seen fleetingly for centuries that we know of. Blamed for actions good, bad, or mischievous, are they supernatural, extraterrestrial, something we have not yet imagined?
